Shrub-like native with violet purple to dark purple spike-like flower clusters with gold anthers. Blooms from bottom to top against silver green compound foliage on densely hairy twigs. Lead plant is in the legume family, creating nitrogen rich soil for degraded landscapes. Tap root can reach 15-20 ft long in a wide range of soils ranging from sand to clay. Host plant to the  southern dog face butterfly as well as attracting honey bees, bumblebees, butterflies, moths, & beneficial insects. 

Provides good protien rich forage for wildlife.

Blooms in full sun May-June. 

Grows 2-3ft tall in full sun.
